One row per staffing slot; ×N means that many people on that block. Times are local to the location. +1 marks a shift that ends the following calendar day.

Use this pattern when…

  • Local law, works-council agreement, or union contract caps shifts at 8 hours, ruling out 12-hour patterns.
  • You need a maintenance window inside the working week rather than a full line stop.
  • You have the headcount for 4-5 crews, which 8-hour continuous coverage demands.

What to watch out for

  • Rotate FORWARD only. Morning to afternoon to night follows the body clock; the reverse is measurably worse for alertness and is a common legacy mistake.
  • The changeover week is the dangerous one. Going from a 22:00-06:00 night straight into a 06:00 morning gives 0 hours of rest — the transition needs a rest day built in, not goodwill.
  • Three shifts means three handovers per day on a production line. Whatever your shift-log discipline is, this pattern depends on it.
